Energy usage
Brown energy comes from fossil fuels like oil and coal, which release harmful emissions. In contrast, green energy from sources like solar and wind is cleaner and more sustainable. In 2021, all of BHID’s electricity and gas came from brown energy. By 2022, 69% of our electricity was green, and by last year, that figure reached 100%.
Waste management
We’re committed to cutting waste and reducing our environmental impact. By partnering with waste management specialists ACM, we ensure all materials are properly sorted and recycled—helping us achieve our goal of zero waste to landfill. We’re also joining ACM’s Greener Path Programme, a strategic initiative that supports long-term sustainability and boosts business performance.
Commitment to do better
Our commitment to initiatives like ESOS, SECR, and EPR reflects our dedication to high environmental standards and sustainable practices. By aligning with these frameworks, we ensure our operations meet—and often exceed—regulatory requirements, demonstrating transparency and accountability.
Local preservation
We recently partnered with ACM Environmental to plant 4,000 saplings at Little Woolden Moss, a vital peatland near Manchester. This effort supports local biodiversity and strengthens a key natural resource in the fight against climate change. Marking a significant stride in our efforts to engage with and support local communities.
Environmental restoration
Our partnership with Carma marks a key step in our commitment to carbon offsetting and habitat restoration. We’ve planted over 1,100 trees so far, with plans to reach 5,000 in the next year—demonstrating our ongoing dedication to sustainability.
Step 6
Our switch to hybrid company vehicles has cut carbon emissions by 50%, highlighting our commitment to sustainability. This move supports our broader environmental goals while maintaining the performance standards our brand is known for.
