Client Case Study: Rachel Stevens’ Serene Dressing Room Retreat

When singer and style icon Rachel Stevens set out to transform the dressing room in her new home, she already had a clear vision of who she wanted to partner with. Rachel first discovered Neville Johnson after spotting a beautifully designed dressing room on Instagram. She was immediately drawn to the style and craftsmanship, later finding out it was the work of Neville Johnson and Senior Designer, Simon Tcherniak. The impression stayed with her, so when she moved into her new home, there was no question about who she wanted to reach out to.

“I knew that Simon and Neville Johnson was the person and the company that I wanted to design and work with,” Rachel says.

Her confidence was rooted not just in the aesthetics but in the care and creativity that had clearly gone into the project she admired. As it turned out, the design she loved was Erica Davies’ signature pink dressing room, another Neville Johnson collaboration that had made waves on social media.

“It was just really creative,” Rachel recalls. “Just very unique to her.”

That sense of individuality and the ability to create something truly personal resonated deeply with Rachel and helped shape the collaborative journey that followed.

A Shift in Style – Designing with Emotion

At the start of the project, Rachel imagined a dressing room with a darker, more dramatic feel, something bold and atmospheric. But as she began to reflect more deeply on how she wanted to use the space, and more importantly, how she wanted to feel in it, her vision began to evolve.

“I came to the conclusion of how I actually want to feel in the space,” she says. “The main thing was just to feel calm and serene.”

That emotional clarity became the turning point. Rather than chasing just a look, the design became rooted in mood and a desire to create a sanctuary. A place where she could start her day feeling grounded or retreat in the evening to unwind.

This shift reshaped every aspect of the design brief. From colour palette to layout, the room was tailored to offer a sense of stillness and simplicity, resulting in a space that feels effortlessly elegant, nurturing, and uniquely personal to Rachel.

Thoughtful Design, Tailored Living

What truly impressed Rachel throughout the design journey was Simon’s meticulous attention to detail and his thoughtful approach to the space. From their very first meeting, it was clear that Simon brought not only design expertise but also a deep understanding of how to make a room work, blending beauty with purpose.

“Simon and his knowledge and experience of pulling it all together… really thinking about the space, measuring the length of the clothes,” Rachel explains.

The design went far beyond surface-level decisions. Every element was carefully considered: the height and depth of shelves, customised compartments for accessories, and wardrobe sections tailored to the exact dimensions of Rachel’s clothing. Nothing was off-the-shelf. Every detail was bespoke.

Just as important to Rachel was the collaborative nature of the process.

“I was thinking really about the aesthetic, how I wanted to feel, so the collaborative part of it was just brilliant,” she says.

While Rachel focused on the emotional and visual side of the brief, with softness, serenity, and style, Simon brought structure and functionality. Together, they created a room that was not only visually stunning but also completely in sync with how Rachel lives and feels in her home.

“It’s Just Heaven”

The final result is more than just a dressing room. It is a true sanctuary. Bathed in light and layered with soft, calming tones, every inch of the room has been thoughtfully designed to reflect both form and function. It is a space where Rachel can begin her day with intention or simply enjoy a quiet moment to herself.

“Now it’s all come together, it’s just so thought out,” she says. “My goal was to have everything super organised. Everything’s got a place and a space, and it’s just heaven.”

A True Partnership in Creative Collaboration

Beyond the stunning design and flawless functionality, what made the project truly special for Rachel was the experience of working with the Neville Johnson team. From start to finish, the process was seamless, supportive, and deeply collaborative. It was a creative partnership that felt both professional and personal.

“The whole experience has just been so lovely, and easy. It’s such a collaborative, creative experience as well,” Rachel reflects. “From the whole team, everyone has been so lovely, it’s like a family.”

This sense of connection and care shines through in every detail of the finished room, making it not just a beautiful space but also a joyful one to live in.

“I literally never want to leave this room,” Rachel says.

For her, the dressing room is more than a project completed. It is a sanctuary born from collaboration, creativity, and genuine warmth.
