Furniture FAQs
What are fitted wardrobes
Fitted wardrobes are bespoke furniture solutions that are custom-built for the exact measurements of your space. Neville Johnson bedroom furniture is designed by experts who listen to your specific requirements. We measure exactly what needs to be housed or displayed and make sure that it will all fit, look good and be accessible.
What are the benefits of having fitted wardrobes over freestanding wardrobes?
The main benefit of choosing fitted wardrobes over freestanding is that they are designed to fit an exact space within a room. Fitted wardrobes can give you a considerable amount of space for storing clothes, accessories, linen and more. They’re tailored to your specifications, meaning you can maximise every inch of your available space.
Why should I choose Neville Johnson for my fitted wardrobes?
At Neville Johnson, we’ve been crafting fitted bedrooms and designing fitted wardrobes for over 35 Years. All of our fitted bedroom furniture is bespoke, meaning it fits and works exactly with the space you have. We send out expert surveyors who measure your room twice to ensure a precise fit. Our design team will work with you to understand your design needs and requirements for your space. We also employ the finest craftsmen to create fitted furniture that always stands the test of time.
What is the process for installing fitted wardrobes?
We first have an initial consultation with you. This is your chance to run through the fitted wardrobe styles you like, and our designers will guide you through any ideas and concepts that work for you. We will then agree on a design plan with you. We then send out our expert surveyors to measure up your space – they measure twice so we only need to cut the wood for your wardrobes once. Our talented craftsmen then work with the finest materials and the best modern techniques in our purpose-built UK factory to build your wardrobes from scratch.
How are fitted wardrobes attached to walls?
At Neville Johnson we use heavy-duty wall fixings to first attach brackets to your wall – we use either wall plugs or screws depending on the type of wall and the size of the wardrobe. Once the brackets are attached securely to your wall, we then fit the fitted wardrobe onto these brackets. The whole process ensures a robust and reliable installation.
How deep are the fitted wardrobes you offer?
Typically Neville Johnson fitted wardrobes tend to be around 55cm-60cm deep so that a clothes rail and hangers can fit comfortably in them. However, they only need to be as deep as the deepest item you want to store. Going high up the wall allows you to have more floor space, making your room feel bigger. Installing upper and lower hanging rails means that you can maximise internal storage, keeping your fitted wardrobe as space-efficient as possible.
What are Neville Johnson fitted wardrobes made from?
Neville Johnson fitted wardrobes are handcrafted from the highest quality wood. The finish you choose is up to you. Whether you want a traditional oak finish, a dark veneer or a fresh white larch, we can cater to your exact design requirements.
How do you measure your fitted wardrobes?
Before we even consider going anywhere near a piece of timber to create your fitted bedroom furniture, cabinetry and wardrobes, our surveyors will pay you a visit to meticulously check and measure your room dimensions. Our ethos is that we measure twice to get the precise measurements of your space, which means we only need to cut the wood once. It’s this level of attention to detail that means we ensure a precise fit.
What type of fitted wardrobes are best for me?
The best type of fitted wardrobes for you depends on your interior design style and the space you have in your bedroom. At Neville Johnson, we work alongside you to first decide on your style preferences – whether modern or contemporary, wooden or painted for example – and we then measure up to craft furniture that works with both your space and your personal needs.
Can fitted wardrobes be built around a corner?
Can fitted wardrobes be built around a corner? Fitted wardrobes can be built around a corner. Our designers can create fitted bedroom furniture that wraps entirely around a room. Going high rather than deep means that when working around a corner, your fitted wardrobes don’t intrude too much on your floor space, or make your room feel cramped.
Can fitted wardrobes work around sloping ceilings?
The beauty of fitted wardrobes is that they can work to any idiosyncrasies of the space. Sloping ceilings and eaves can easily be incorporated into a fitted bedroom design, as the wardrobe is bespoke and custom-built to the architecture of your property. Building fitted wardrobes around sloping ceilings is a great way of ensuring floor space is maximised, as a freestanding wardrobe would not be able to sit flush against the wall like a fitted wardrobe can.
What styles of fitted wardrobes do Neville Johnson offer?
You can choose from a wide range of fitted wardrobe styles at Neville Johnson. Our classic wardrobes work in both traditional and contemporary homes with options including shaker-style fitted wardrobes and oak-fitted wardrobes. Our modern wardrobes include art deco fittings and modern colour palettes. You can also choose walk-in wardrobes for women and men, as well as options that work with unique spaces like attics, small bedrooms, and more. When you first meet with our design team, you can discuss all your design choices and understand the options to transform your bedroom.
Can I choose the materials and finishes for my fitted wardrobe?
Absolutely, you can choose the materials and finishes for your fitted wardrobe and bedroom cabinetry. At Neville Johnson, our design team will work with you at all stages of the process. In the initial consultation, they will discuss the design options for materials and finishes. Personalisation is one of the most exciting things about fitted wardrobes, so we want you to be able to choose the materials that best suit your taste and décor.
Do fitted wardrobes add value to my home?
Yes absolutely, fitted wardrobes can add value to your home. A well-designed fitted wardrobe adds functionality and personality to a home, which will stick in the minds of prospective buyers and make your property even more distinctive. Fitted wardrobes maximise storage in ways that freestanding furniture cannot, as they are built with millimetre precision to the exact space they occupy. We have established an impeccable reputation built on innovative design and quality furniture that lasts. A Neville Johnson fitted wardrobe is sure to add value to your home.
How ‘bespoke’ can I make my fitted wardrobes?
When it comes to creating your fitted wardrobes, each piece of the design is individually tailored to your unique requirements. We’ll work with you from start to finish to create truly bespoke solutions that suit your individual needs. This means you can have anything you want, from practical features you need to the personal touches you desire. Our designers will work with you to plan the perfect wardrobe space to suit your everyday routine and lifestyle. For example, if you have an extensive shoe collection, then a pull-out storage system or softly lit shoe rack may be a priority for you. If you share with your partner, maybe you want to have separate spaces with storage that’s optimised for specific clothing, or open shelving so you can see certain items. Everything we build is beautifully bespoke, so the end result will be as perfectly tailored as the fashion inside it.
